GRAMMY-nominated, Nashville-based ALIAS Chamber Ensemble brings their annual winter concert to OZ Arts with a program of heft and significance designed to reflect on humanity. The first work, a mainstay of 20th-century repertoire: Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, was written during WWII while Messiaen was a prisoner in a German POW camp. The second, Night Songs is inspired by the writings of the young Dutch writer Etty Hillesum and written for string quartet by composer/violinist Alexandra du Bois. The evening will include a reading of some of Hillesum’s writings and aims to honor International Holocaust Remembrance Day (Jan 27, 2017).
