“Maybe if Andrew Jackson had lived longer, like another century and a half, he could have kept our current cultural civil war from happening” –ANON
In the 1930’s Works Progress Administration put artists of every sort to work.
The current administration seems hell bent on demolishing arts funding.
Dismayed by the current socio-political atmosphere in America, Nashville-based, speaker songwriter Minton Sparks imagined and conjured a “meeting of artistic minds” in an effort to determine a way forward. With no holds barred and disparate perspectives welcomed, Creativity Camp 2017 emerged.
Over the course of seven days, a diverse group of artists; writers, performers, visual artists, and filmmakers gather to ponder the question,“who are we as artists in this particular moment in history?” Working both independently and together, a variety of artists will attempt to answer this question – or at least begin – and culminate their exploration with a performance at OZ Arts Nashville’s The Artists’ Lounge.
Artists include:
Minton Sparks (spoken word artist)
Rebecca Gose (choreographer)
Mattison (spoken word artist)
Sydney Reichman (metal sculptor)
Matt Siffert ( singer/songwriter)
Gregory Webb (filmmaker actor, director)
Melea Seward (writer, questing specialist)
Sparks has built a reputation telling hilarious, humble and heartbreaking tales in her unique, spoken word/honkey-tonk hybrid performance style. Regularly garnering whoops, hollers and general hell-raising from beer-swilling good ole boys and latte-sipping intellectuals alike, Sparks offers us an artists’ perspective.
“Minton Sparks is a great storyteller—humanity with humidity, all told humorously with humility.” – John Prine
