“To look around the United States today is enough to make prophets and angels weep.”
— James Baldwin (1978)
OZ Arts believes #BlackLivesMatter. We join the urgent call to confront oppression, racism, and acts of police brutality, and demand justice for the violent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade—and Nashville victims Daniel Hambrick and Jocques Clemmons. We grieve for the violent loss of these Black lives added to a tragically long list of casualties of longstanding, systemic racism in the country.
Black Lives Matter. We reaffirm and strengthen our commitment to celebrate and foreground artists like those described by Black Lives Matter Arts+Culture: “Black artists who speak audaciously, who are unafraid, and who stand in solidarity with the most marginalized among us. Artists who call on us to change the way we see ourselves and one another. Artists who center love, joy, dignity, and freedom.”
